People are considered food secure when they have availability and adequate access at all times to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life. At FIST, we specifically consider and ensure:
→ Availability of food in sufficient quantities and on a consistent basis.
→ Stock and production in a given area and the capacity to bring in food from elsewhere, through trade or Aid.
→ Design and implement food distribution channels and systems for large numbers of people.
→ Provision of nutritional information on the various food stuffs and feeding practices.
→ Training the people in the use of back-yard gardens especially those who live in congested settings with no land for farming.
→ Teach the people on safe and nutritious cooking, storage and hygiene practices within the house hold.
→ Conducting food assessments and nutrition assessments.
