About Us

Background:

The FUNDAMENTAL INITIATIVE FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION (FIST) Uganda is a Nonprofit, nonpartisan, Non-Governmental (NGO) DEVELOPMENT Organization focused on empowering the underprivileged communities. At FIST we believe that children, our environment and the offer of a second chance are the greatest opportunity to transform any community into something both beautiful and sustainable. FIST started as a small Community-Based Organization in Walukuba-Masese Division making small but meaningful impact in surrounding communities for 3 years before transitioning into a National NGO REG. No. INDP000131NB, Permit Number 1960 in 2018 with an ambitious vision for Uganda and beyond headquartered in Jinja.

Our Story:

FIST’s vision was inspired by the story of a young boy born into extreme poverty who befriended a teacher from the rundown village school he could not afford to attend when his mother took ill. When the teacher learned that his mother had died, he took the young boy under his wing, offered him one hot meal a day, free lessons and above all, friendship. Today, that blessed child pays it forward continually with the help of more friends and well-wishers.

FIST follows maxims that ensure best practice. We rely on networking and collaboration with key community stakeholders to ensure impactful interventions. With our partners, we enforce the highest ethical standards at all times, while also ensuring that the safety and provision of duty of care is extended to all those we are charged with servicing.
